Welcome to LEAF Sheffield!

LEAF (Local Enterprises Around Food) has been working since 2001 to develop several allotment plots at Norwood Allotments, Herries Road, Sheffield 5, into a local food-growing project, so that local people can learn to grow and prepare their own fresh food. The group run weekly, open-to-all volunteer sessions, where people can learn about sustainable and organic production, composting on-site and food preparation. The allotment site offers a resource for all local residents to enjoy and learn from, and the group has been successful in gaining funding from a variety of sources including Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, the Lottery, Sheffield’s Green Bond, the Enhanced Public Health Programme & the Tudor Trust, to support the volunteer sessions & work with local community organisations, schools & care homes. Attendance is buoyant and the social benefits are tangible. For instance the diet of the volunteers, who are growing and preparing their own fruit and veg, has been transformed as have their cooking skills. The longevity of the scheme is testament to the volunteers’ determination, and they have developed the scope of the project over time.
